In our last post we gave you 5 top tips to healthy skin. In today’s we’re going to look at juice, to see if it can be used as an alternative approach to healthy, clear skin. That’s right, juice… as in Vegetable Juice.

Juicing has long been know to improve energy levels, restore cellular health and boost the immune system. It can literally give you a glow from the inside out. Juices do this by increasing oxygen levels withing the body, improving the antioxidant levels and by helping the body rid it’self of toxins and waste (excreted through the skin!)

So, just how should we use juice to get glowing, healthy skin?

Healthy Glowing Skin

Carrots

Carrots are going to be your best friend when it comes to juicing. They are sweet and refreshing, and don’t have too strong a flavour like some vegetables do. Not only that, but they are loaded with vitamins, including Vitamin A for healthy skin.

Did you know that an 8-oz glass of carrot juice supplies 20,000 mg of vitamin A! (It also contains vitamin C and other essential vitamins and minerals for skin health).

Greens

Greens are another vegetable that juice really well. Grean leaves and herbs are excellent sources of chlorophyll, full of vitamins C and B, as well as folic acid, iron, potassium, and other vital nutrients.

Cucumbers, kale, spinach, leafy lettuce and celery are also excellent for juice. They add another layer of ‘green’ and even more goodness.

Beetroot

Beetroot is a good source of calcium, iron, and vitamin B6, manganese and potassium. Add in the stem and the greens as an extra source of greens in your juice. Choose firm and smooth beets for juicing, and only add in small amounts. (Approx 1 – 2 ounces of beet, equivalent to about 1/2 a small beet).

Things You’ll Need

Vegetable brush (optional)
Beetroot with greens
Sharp knife
Cutting board
Juicer

Some simple recipies:

Love the skin you’re in:

- 6 carrots

- 1 cup of kale (or other greens)

Healthy Skin Tonic:

- 1/2 beet with greens

- 3 apples

- 1 cup of kale

So simple, right, and it’s good for your skin!

Why not try some of your own combinations and see how they taste. We’re sure it’ll work wonders on your skin, and you will start to see a real difference in your complexion and your overall health quite quickly. And what to do with all that left over fruit pulp…?

Why not make a vegetable face pack?

Love the skin you’re in, give it all the nutrients it requires and get healthy skin and a clear complexion whilst enjoying the great taste of some healthy juices!

How can you tell if your skin is healthy? What is healthy skin, and how do you get healthy skin?

If you’ve ever wondered how to get gorgeous, radiant, clear skin, you’ve probably asked yourself these questions numerous times. The simple answer is radiant, clear and gorgeous skin IS healthy skin.

Healthy skin kinda glows from the inside. It radiates youth and beauty, and it leaves you looking radiant and feeling confident. It’s not wonder that we all wish we had it! So how exactly can we achieve that healthy skin look? Are there some simple steps to achieveing it?

The great answer to that is, yes. There are some really simple, and cheap steps that you can take that will leave your skin glowing and healthy. Wanna know how? Read our top 5 tips and achieve the skin you’ve always wanted in 5 easy steps:

Healthy Skin Tip One

Don’t smoke!

Smoking makes your skin sag, look older than it really is, and really increases your wrinkles. It narrows the blood vessels in the skin, which decreases blood flow to that area. this damadges the collagen and elastin – important fibres that help to give the skin elasticity.

If you smoke, try to find some ways of quitting. There are plenty of methods out there.

If you don’t smoke. Well done… you’ve already completely step one! You are ONE STEP CLOSER to achieving healthy skin! (Pat yourself on the back).

Healthy Skin Tip Two

Take your Vitamins

Skin experts have long known that a lack of nutrition in the diet leads to lifeless, blotchy, dry skin. Vitamins and minerals are a must if you are trying to give your skin a boost. Antioxidants help prevent skin damage from free radicals too, so don’t skimp. Revitalize your skin with a regular intake of high-quality vitamins and minerals. It’s as easy as A, B, C…

Vitamin A is great for reparing skin and body tissue. It can help prevent skin dryness and can even delay the signs of aging.

Vitamin B can improce the circulation and skin tone.

Vitamin C maintains the natural levels of collagen…

If you don’t already have a clean, healthy diet try to begin by eating better. Keep a food journal and write down everything you eat. It should help you to see what nutrients your body is missing. Alternatively take a high-quality multi-vitamin, with all those healthy skin nutrients.

If you already eat well, and take a multi-vitamin, well done you! You are another step closer to healthy skin!

Healthy skin Tip Three

Sleep, sleep, sleep…

Let’s face it, most of us don’t get enough sleep. We’re either staying up late partying or drinking into the wee hours, or else some stressful situation is making us lie in bed for hours tossing and turning. It’s no fun, but we’ve all been there. Can you remember the least time you had a really decent night’s sleep? When you went to bed really early, with no distractions (turn off that TV, and put down your iPhone!) yeah, I thought so… It’s probably been a while, right?

So, why not try and make it tonight that you turn in early. Treat your skin to an early night. you will look so much better for it. Tired, run down, and lacking energy does not equal healthy skin!

If you regularly turn in early, awesome! Your skin will be radiant and glowing in no time.

If you don’t already, try and get an early night, at least once in a while…

Healthy Skin Tip Four

Cold Water

Really, cold water can work wonders on skin! Just a splash in the sink, or else by turning the shower onto cold when you’re done shampooing and soaping can not only leave your feeling refreshed and alert, but will invigorate your skin too. Try to make the water as cold as you can stand, and jsut do it for a couple of minutes every day. it will increase blood circulation and firm up your skin leaving it radiant and healthy!

If you don’t already use cold water in your skin care routine, start by dunking your face in a sink-full of cold water. It’s much less shocking than the shower, but you’ll soon start to find it invigorating.

If you do already use cold face dunks, or cold showers, try to make the water gradually colder, and for longer each week. you’ll find that you can stand much cooler temperature once you’re used to it. A+ to those who already use this technique, is your skin starting to look healthier?

Healthy Skin Tip Five

Eat healthy fats

Regardless of what the diet industry tells us, we need some fat in our diet to stay alive! For those who have gone super fat-free you may not be doing your skin the good that you think you are. Skin needs fat, just like everything else in the body, so it’s important to include good fats in the diet if you want healthy skin.

What are the good fats?

Avocados, coconuts, nuts, oily fish like salmon, butter, olive oil.

So, are you following our five tips to achieving healthy skin? If not, why not make some changes today, and see what an improvement you can make. I’m sure within a month, you’ll be able to tell noticeably that you skin looks more radiant and youthful. These fats will all help to repair your skin, and leave it clear and rejuvenated.

And if you’re worried about getting fat…

Be aware that eating fat will not make you fat, unless you take in too many calories. So, a little bit of fat in a balanced diet will do a lot of good.

Just remember to avoid the ‘bad’ fats from industrial-seed oils (sunflower, canola, soy, corn) and margarine.

There is nothing like natural beauty and being able to go make-up free is the wish of many people.

Someone who has clear, smooth skin, which needs no make-up whatsoever, is the envy of all those who suffer from problematic skin. These people radiate good health and confidence. So, for all those who crave for clear, glowing skin and a beautiful unblemished complexion read on for some useful smooth skin tips.

Get beautiful skin

If you’ve got an acne problem or you suffer from embarrassing skin trouble you don’t have to resign yourself to living with it any more. With recent advances in laser surgery, skin care products and prescription medicines for clearing up awkward skin conditions, problems that once seemed insurmountable can now be gotten rid of altogether. And while it may not be as simple as simply using a little lotion here or there, or popping a pill for a week, there are steps that you can take in order to get lasting beautiful skin. Think of it more as a beauty regime than a one-stop solution, and you will soon begin to see a real difference.

Follow these 10 steps to change the way you care for yourself and you’ll soon be on the way to obtaining a perfectly clear complexion and great looking skin.

10 Smooth skin tips

Skin care tip 1: Be healthy!

Lets begin right at the fundamental level…

with seeping right, exercising well, and learning to relax. By doing all three properly in the right amounts, you will be allowing your body to relax and repair and to eliminate toxins. By maintaining a good balance and practicing these three things regularly your entire skin will begin to take on a beautiful healthy glow. Just imagine, you can actually improve the condition of your skin while improving your overall body health.

Skin care tip 2: Eat well!

Try to eat healthy foods.

Don’t eat loads of fatty, greasy foods like fries and burgers on a daily basis. Instead, eat foods that have skin hydrating, sun-protecting and wrinkle preventing powers and eat plenty of nutrient rich (especially antioxidant and vitamin C and A rich) vegetables and fruits. Some good examples are: sweet potatoes, tomatoes, cantaloupe, tea – green or black, oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit, spinach, turnip greens, broccoli and omega-3 rich foods. These foods will provide you the nutrients needed for your skin to keep it smooth, glowing and wrinkle free.

Skin care tip 3: Hydrate!

Drink lots of water, 8 cups a day, to help your skin to be healthy and hydrated.

Skin care tip 4: Use the right products!

Go to a chemist or supermarket or health food store and buy these products:

Something to remove make-up,

A cleansing lotion,

A toner,

A moisturizer,

a facial scrub,

an antibacterial soap.

Make sure you get them for your skin type, eg. sensitive skin, dry skin, and make sure they are not full of nasty chemicals. A reputable store, should have a wide range to chose from, so check the ingredients labels and do your homework.

Skin care tip 5: Blitz those zits!

Make an emergency zit kit including:

a zit cream that has salicylic acid and/or benzoyl peroxide,

a cream that reduces redness,

a concealer stick,

and translucent powder (the powder should absorb excess oils on your face).

Of course, this is completely optional, but very useful.

Skin care tip 6: Make yourself a natural mask!

Research some natural products that work well to soothe and beautiful the skin. Virgin coconut oil, avocado, banana and honey are some examples that can be used to make a great natural mask. Apply this whenever you feel like giving your skin a treat, perhaps in the evening, or while in the bath…
Make sure your face is clean before you apply it on. Massage your face for 2-3 minutes. A little goes a long way. If you put too much on, gently remove the excess with a soft, clean towel. Then relax for 10 – 15 minutes.

Skin care tip 7: Wash your face!

Wash your face twice a day.

In the morning, splash your face with cold water for about 10 seconds. Then pat dry with a washcloth or facial sponge. This helps stimulate blood flow and is really good for the skin. Then get hot steamy water in a cup or bowl and place your face above the water. This will open up your pores and then you can wash your face with a oil-free cleanser. Apply toner or lemon juice then moisturize. It is also good to moisturize before you go to bed.

Skin care tip 8: Remove your make-up!

Take off your make up every night before you go to sleep without fail! Wash your face with warm water again, use toner, and moisturizer.

Skin care tip 9: Keep a skin journal!

Write down any noticeable differences with your skin over the course of a few weeks. Jot down what you apply to your skin, what the weather is like, and how your skin reacts. You might begin to realize that what you’re eating or the climatic conditions, or the pollution form the city you live in are affecting your skin!

Skin care tip 10: Visit a dermatologist!

Remember if all else fails, go see a dermatologist. They are professionally trained to be able to help you with your skin. You have nothing to be embarrassed about!

Follow these ten tips and you should start to notice that your skin becomes visibly smoother and clearer.

If you suffer from dry skin or eczema

You may know already how difficult it is to treat. Sensitive, dry skin contains a low level of sebum and has a ‘parched look’caused by it’s inability to retain moisture. It feels ‘tight’ and itchy and several conditions can make it worse. These include the weather (winter & dry weather tends to make skin drier,) some harsh laundry detergents, and even hot baths can all make this condition worse. Chapping and cracking are signs of extremely dry, dehydrated skin.

Can dry skin cause red bumps?

Yes, it can. And they can be itchy, and uncomfortable. In extreme cases these could be caused by dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis or seborrhea.

What will dry out skin

Some things that may contribute to dry skin are: An under active thyroid gland Diabetes Drug use – including diuretics, antispasmodics, antihistamines A genetic condition could also cause cases of dry scaly skin and treatment Check with your doctor if you suspect that any of these extreme dry skin medical symptoms may be contributing problem.

Dry skin shower frequency

The problem with water is that it makes your dry skin problem worse, so try to limit that amount of times that you wash your skin. Try using cool water and a face cloth, rather than taking baths or showers. And look out for soap-free shower gel for dry itchy sensitive skin, or neutrogena dry skin bars.

How does soap cause dry skin

The causes of dry cracking skin fingers are difficult to treat, as the hands are often more exposed to the elements. Avoid harsh detergents, and putting your hands in water (such as washing up) too much. If you suffer from peeling dry skin on palms of hands or rash dry skin on your hand or from dry scaly skin on palms of hands, or if you suffer from dry skin around the ear or face area, it is probably a result of external factors, such as the skin being exposed to the elements.

Environmental factors play a big part, so check how much skin you are exposing to the sun, wind, cold weather, chemicals, cosmetics or harsh soaps. Dry scaling skin on nipples or dry skin around breast means that your oil glands are not supply enough lubrication on the skin. Trying using Acidophilus yogurt for clear, moisturized skin.

3 Top Natural Acne Treatment Tips

Many acne sufferers don’t realize the how good some natural remedies can be. They only rely on chemical products to help treat their acne and hope that they can work to get rid of their problem skin. But just how good are these chemical products, and do they really work?

A lot of people say t hat they haven’t yet found any compelling reasons as to why acne sufferers depend on medications so much when there are a variety of alternate and natural remedies available for them. I always advise people not to waste money on things that are of no use or may harm their health, until they have gone down the natural route first.

If those alternative don’t work by all means try the chemicals and the drugs…

Of course, we all get frustrated when so called ‘cures’ don’t work, and it is individual choice as to how you treat your spots and pimples, but why not let nature take it’s course first, before turning to scientific and chemical solutions.

Treating Acne naturally

Acne can occur anywhere on the body, really, but is most common on the face, back, and chest. Facial acne is perhaps the most embarrassing of problems, as it becomes really difficult to cover it up. Exposed and on show, it becomes a real problems and source of embarrassment for many acne suffers.

Ok, let’s begin with the toughest thing that acne sufferers must ABSOLUTELY stop doing to avoid propagation of acne to other part of skin. Do not scratch or pick at your acne! I know it’s really very temping but this encourage the transfer of oils and dirt into the wounds you have scratched, and result to deeper acne lesions. This is how deep scars are formed.

Secondly, avoid using heavy make-up. Some acne sufferers always try to cover their acne lesions with make-up without knowing that this might be the cause of further breakouts. Most commercial make-up contained lots of oils and waxes which will naturally block the pores of your skin.

Thirdly, change your bedding, especially the pillow covers everyday. If you do not change them, residue of dirt, bacteria and germs left on your sheets every morning risk of being passed back onto your skin. And you already know what is going to happen… blocked pores!

Choosing natural acne treatment as a first option to get rid of your acne is always going to be the best way to go. In the end you have nothing to lose. It is very important to understand what your body needs to be in good health. Have you tried any of these yet?

Natural Acne Cures

Tea Tree Oil, commonly promoted as a natural treatment for acne due to its anti-bacterial properties. Long known to be a kind of natural disinectant, it can kill bacteria without harming the skin. Tea Tree Oil – considered one of the best natural treatments for mild cases of acne.

Lemon juice extract, in other words, the juice of a lemon. Mix it together with an equal amount of water and stir and apply the mixture on your face (or any other affected area) and leave it on for approximately 30 minutes. Then wash your face with fresh, lukewarm water. Do this once a day and after about two weeks you should see a significant improvement in your skin. Many of those who have tried lemon juice report excellent results. As an added benefit, lemon juice also reduces the colour of dark blemishes and scars, havinga lightening effect on the skin.

Aspirin. One of the ingredients in Aspirin is beta hydroxy acid. When mixed with water and placed on the skin this acid works as a strong exfoliant thus helping to unclog pores and clear blemishes. Use the Aspirin scrub once a week to get rid of pimples and acne pimple scars. Just be sure to rub very gently and don’t leave the mask on for more than about 15 minutes. Those who use it daily for long periods suggest adding honey to the mixture for a smoother look and a pleasing glow.
